In 1886 Gerry’s daughter Martha documented the picturesque appearance of the family’s home in the Highlands section of Roxbury. Gerry had added a “painting room” in 1876, which served as his studio for ten years. Around the time Martha created this sketch, Gerry moved his studio back into the center of Boston, on Boylston Street, although he continued to use his Roxbury studio to give art lessons.
